A Lot Like Adios- Alexis Daria

You’ll want to keep a fire extinguisher nearby while reading this because Dios mio this one flaming hot!

Ahhh mi corazón! My heart is all flutter-y after having just finished this stellar novel.

A Lot Like Adiós tells the story of Michelle, Gabe, and the exploration of a long, unrequited love story between two childhood best friends. Thirteen years have passed since Michelle Abato has seen or heard from Gabriel Aguilar, who had left New York for LA without so much as an explanation. Now, in some crazy whirlwind of fate, their career paths have crossed and Mich, a graphic designer, has been hired to work on Gabe’s gym.

As sticky as the situation may be, Mich agrees to it with the condition that Gabe stay at her place. She has every intention on cornering him on her home turf and finally get the closure she’s been missing. However with the extreme sexual electricity buzzing between them, they may have to a pin in past issues before resolving them.

Raise your hand if you love seeing parts of yourself in a story. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I do. This story hit home with me in ways I can’t fully explain on here but I can tell you that I, like Mich, am a 31 year old anxious, tea-loving, nerdy (#geekygabby ), nuyorican whohas learned to become an expert at guarding her heart. This story gives me so much hope for my own life. I am far from having it all together and while things probably won’t resolve themselves the way the do in Michelle’s case, her story gave me hope regardless.

Becoming an adult is difficult. Figuring out what your true passion is and following that is difficult. Seeing your parents age and going through the process of humanizing them is difficult!

I really appreciated that Daria acknowledges these strains and in doing so, helps us all feel less alone. That is what makes a great story for me- one that makes you feel less alone.

I honestly loved Mich & Gabe’s chemistry so much more than Ashton & Jasmine’s (don’t kill me!) I adored their back and forth banter. They just feel so right! Throughout A Lot Like Adiós, little excerpts from a sci-fi fan fic they had written as teenagers parallels with their own developing story and I was so there for it. This was more than a steamy book. This had so much heart and was absolutely enamoring. (Don’t get me wrong, your cheeks will still blaze red while reading this. 🌶)
