These Silent Woods
Thank you @minotaur_books for my ARC of #TheseSilentWoods in exchange for my honest opinion. Also, thank you for the Audubon bird call! I had the same one growing up but lost it so needless to say this was a wonderful surprise! 🐦
Happy Pub Day to These Silent Woods!

Gutted.
Gutted in the best possible way.
Cooper, ex army vet, and his daughter live alone tucked in the northern Appalachian woods. It’s the only home eight year old, Finch has ever known and she accepts the isolation they live in, mostly without question. That is until their one source to the outside world and to vital resources is cut off and a stranger has wandered into their woods, putting their lives of hiding in jeopardy. Their world is turned upside down quickly and Cooper quickly learns there is no more outrunning his haunting past that cornered them into these silent woods.
These Silent Woods was plot perfection. This story of the lengths a man will go through to fight for his daughter; the risks of their every act in insuring their safety, was exhilarating and heart pounding from the start to finish. Everything I look for in a book was ticked off: characters with depth and mystery, short, addictive chapters, a fresh plot, a surprising ending that also felt fulfilled, and emotions, emotions, emotions. Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. All that mixed with nature elements, proper mental illness representation, a girl in love with books, and no unnecessary fluff, I can’t think of anything I would have changed.
Grant has written an absorbing, haunting, atmospheric, and compelling novel that I will be recommending without hesitation.
This is a top contender in my favorite books of 2021.
